The Belize Zoo
Background Information
The Belize Zoo was formed in 1983, it became a home for a collective of animals that were being used for filming a documentary of the tropical forests. It is located 29 miles from Belize City on the George Price Highway. Now it holds over 45 different species and 175 rehabilitated, orphaned or rescued wildlife animals in Belize on its 29 acres of tropical savannah. At the Belize Zoo you will see the most exotic wildlife residents including, tapirs’ jaguars, jabiru stork, spider monkeys, keel billed toucans, scarlet macaws and much more. In 2014 it became the first nature destination in the country accessible to person with physical disabilities, in hope that it would bring people closer to the animals to protect them for future generations.
